EPDM, bitumen felt or PVC?
For a flat roof in Latvia the usual choice is between bitumen, a PVC membrane and EPDM. This is how EPDM differs.
Fewer seams
Bitumen rolls are narrow, so a roof ends up with many seams. RubberGard EPDM sheets come up to 15.25 × 30.5 m, so many roofs are covered with one or two sheets. Fewer seams mean fewer places for water to get in.
No flame, no hot air
Bitumen is usually torched on and PVC seams are welded with hot air. EPDM is bonded with contact adhesive and the seams are made cold with QuickSeam tape.
Flexible in frost
RubberGard EPDM stays flexible down to −45 °C and stretches over 300%, so it moves with the building and does not crack in winter.
Long service life
RubberGard EPDM has a life expectancy of over 50 years.
When EPDM is not the answer
EPDM must not touch hot bitumen, oils or petroleum products. If any of these stay on the roof, we first decide what to do with the old covering.
